ECM in SAP Fiori
The client was looking to transform their existing Engineering Change Management in legacy CMMS system into a more modern, efficient, and user-friendly platform. While they were open to change, they lacked clarity on what the transformation would look like. The Functional team proposed SAP Fiori as the new solution framework.
Outdated UI
The CMMS platform had an outdated black interface, difficult for both seasoned and new users to navigate.
Fragmented Navigation
Performing tasks like S4P and ECN timing required toggling between multiple pages and apps to reference Notices, Supplier Info, Production data, etc.

User Demographic
The interface served a split demographic—experienced employees (40–50 yrs) and new PPM Analysts (25–40 yrs), many unfamiliar with advanced digital platforms.
Information Overload
Each screen had inconsistent layouts, which made understanding and locating key information time-consuming.
Design Process Aligned with Critical Thinking Methodology
We studied the legacy CMMS workflows, screen patterns, and user behavior through client demos and internal documentation.
Remember
A 4-day onsite workshop helped us absorb real user pain points via interviews and shadowing. We mapped their workflows and gathered insights into their mental models.
Understand
We took our learnings and began identifying key modules: Notices, S4P Timing, and ECN Timing. We grouped data into primary/secondary information and outlined consistent screen flows.
Apply
Collaborated with Functional and Technical teams to validate logic, prioritize data sections, and check technical feasibility for each feature. Addressed pain points like context switching and lack of clarity.
Analyze
We shared multiple design versions with stakeholders, business leads, PPM Analysts, and plant engineers. Feedback was synthesized and implemented iteratively.
Evaluate
Using the SAP Fiori UI Kit in Figma, we created high-fidelity, platform-compliant screens. Final designs reflected a careful balance of usability, technical feasibility, and business needs.

This project highlighted how deep UX thinking, backed by empathy, critical analysis, and strategic execution, can simplify complex enterprise systems.
Rather than jumping straight into design, we focused first on understanding the process, untangling confusion, and aligning cross-functional teams.
